Netflix has released the second edition of its "What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report," showcasing the most popular shows and movies globally from July to December 2023.
The report, which includes improvements such as adding runtime and views (total hours viewed divided by runtime) and separating films from series, revealed that people watched 90 billion hours of Netflix in the second half of 2023, contributing to a total of 183 billion hours for the entire year.
The report highlighted several Indian shows:
- The Railway Men: 42.1 million hours
- Kohrra: Season 1: 30.9 million hours
- Kaala Paani: Season 1: 42.3 million hours
- Jaane Jaan: 46.9 million hours
- Khufiya: 32 million hours
- OMG 2: 29.8 million hours
- Kushi: 8.5 million hours
- Kho Gaye Hum Kahan: 6.3 million hours
- Kathal - A Jackfruit Mystery: 3.1 million hours
Other popular titles included:
- Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar: 7.6 million hours
- Gangubai Kathiawadi: 5.4 million hours
- Lust Stories: 4.2 million hours
- Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway: 4.4 million hours
Sports content has also surged in popularity, with 184 million views. Highlights include:
- BECKHAM: 44 million views
- Untold: Johnny Football: 14 million views
- Quarterback: 13 million views
Netflix will now release this report biannually, detailing hours viewed, premiere dates, and global availability. The platform also publishes weekly Top 10 and Most Popular lists, with this report offering a comprehensive overview of viewing trends.
Overall, the report covers over 18,000 titles, representing 99% of all Netflix viewing and nearly 100 billion hours watched. Non-English shows and movies remain highly popular, accounting for almost a third of all viewing.
